Lady Gaga曾在Born This
Way Ball中說過她在中學時曾被老師刁難說她的聲線太過流行，但在這張專輯剛發行首單”Perfect
llusion”時又被說是造作的劇場腔調，這看來非常諷刺，但卻也是她的特性。在’Artpop’時期就已經嘗試過多元曲風的她，這次的’Joanne’則是全新的感受。
受到過世姑姑Joanne的啟發，Lady Gaga曾在推特回覆粉絲這張專輯是屬於家庭的，在經過三年的沉澱，Lady Gaga回到最原本的自己只以一件T恤、簡單的牛仔褲回到舞台上，是什麼讓她停止寫出粉絲期待的舞曲，轉而非主流式的搖滾音樂？
整張專輯由女神卡卡以及馬克榮森還有Bloodpop製作，’Joanne’是一張被完整設計好的，歌曲編排恰到好處。在專輯開頭就帶有Muse影子的單曲”Diamond Heart”，毛遂自薦的情歌搖滾搭配著歌詞”Do
you have a Girlfriend”，帶有調情意味卻又害羞的陰鬱十分討喜。在滾石雜誌採訪時曾表示專輯曲風為”Dance-rock”則在”A-Yo”這首中表露無遺，在與百威合作的小型巡演中就被粉絲譽為”Manicure”(2013) 2.0的”A-Yo”則是將派對流行帶到另一個境界，具有記憶點的節拍是適合秋冬舞會的一大單曲。
將自己定位成音樂家而非鄉村歌手的Lady Gaga在第二單曲”Million Reasons”推出後飽受鄉村腔調的爭議，但仔細一聽其實那並不是刻意而是曲風改變的緣故，”Million Reasons”以及”Sinner’s Prayer”雖然都是由吉他伴奏為主但實則是Alternative Rock的風格，與Father John
Misty合作的”Sinner’s Prayer”還請來曾為Amy Winehouse伴奏的吉他手Thomas Brenneck，在取消婚約表示感情需要一段暫停期的Lady
Gaga，這首單曲平順但又充滿情感的表現方式也與Joshua Tillman以往的音樂相似。
在歌喉方面，在新專輯的訪談中，Elton John曾表示這張專輯內女神卡卡的嗓音是沒有經過修飾但充滿情感的，在專輯內單曲”Angel Down”以及”Joanne”中，雖然音準轉換上沒有如同”Perfect Illusion”那樣高亢，平順且溫柔的乾嗓更適合這兩首單曲。最受粉絲高度歡迎的有關黑暗主題的單曲”John Wayne”和”Dancin’ in Circles”可以看出卡卡想主推這兩首藍調流行樂的野心，但從她’Monster’EP中的”Teeth”來看，雖然評論都受到高度肯定，但在排行榜的表現卻只在首周上升到107名。
被選為專輯內最值得推薦的”Come to Mama”，這首單曲歸功於兩位深受黑人文化的製作人Mark Ronson以及Emile Haynie，靈魂樂的樂的成分極大，這不但是一首對於現在美國文化的慶祝之歌，也是願景與抱負。
In Born This Way Ball, Lady Gaga said that
she was been told her voice is too Pop that she can’t act as a main actress,
but when she released “Perfect Illusion”, People started to say her voice is
too theater, this is very ironic to her, but this totally describe Lady Gaga,
she can be anything.
Inspired by her pass-away auntie, Lady Gaga
named her new album ‘Joanne’ as her father named her middle name after his
sister’s name. Lady Gaga once called her album a “Family Thing” in a reply of a
fan. After 3 years, Lady Gaga is back on stage with plain jeans and t-shirt
with a remarkable hat, what makes her stop writing dance music to alternative
rock?
Produced by Gaga herself with Mark Ronson
and Bloodpop, ‘Joanne’ is a well-designed album as we can see from “Angel Down”
to “Diamond Heart”, with a Muse-alike beginning, “Diamond Heart” is a
strong-loving ballad with flirting “Do you have a girlfriend”. During her
interview with RollingStone, Gaga described her new album with “Dance-Rock” and
the third single “A-Yo” is a good explanation, reference to her last record “Artpop”,
“A-Yo” s link to “Manicure” by fans during her Diva Bar Tour with

On her vocals, her raw, scratch sounds make
her music more emotional and touching. In “Angel Down” and “Joanne”, we can
hear the pitch switching is not as high as “Perfect Illusion” is, but smooth
and comfort as her tracks like “Brown Eyes” and “Speechless”.Most highly liked
by fans, “John Wayne” and “Dancin’ in Circles” are two drak-theme R&B pop
in this album. On her ‘Monster’ (EP), “Teeth” only peaked 107 at single charts,
but it seems like Gaga has ambition on these two single in ‘Joanne’.

“Come to Mama” is a blue-eyed soul song that we love in this album, credit to
Mark Ronson and Emile Haynie, we can hear some black material in “Come to Mama”, it is a political march about the
culture in USA now, about race, black lives matter and new future vision on it.
To us, ‘Joanne’ is an album that when we
miss somebody and we can play it with memories.
